Groom / Stable hand (with riding opportunities based on experience/abilities)
Would you like to live in the Netherlands for 6 months to a year?
We are looking for a mature, self motivated, and hard working individual with a strong eye for detail to join Ian Smith Dressage in partnership with DeJeu Dressage. The successful applicant should have some experience as a groom/stablehand, and be able to follow instructions and procedures as well as think on their feet. Some previous riding experience (especially with young horses) is advantageous but not required.
Attention to detail is essential and the welfare of our horses must be your first priority. Tasks include but are not limited to:
– turning out horses to a high standard
– grooming, feeding and late checks
– preparing horses pre and post exercise
– turning out and rugging
– checking general health of horses
– mucking out
– cleaning tack and stable area
– basic property maintenance
– working Independently managing the stable while I am away with clients or on business trips.
– Lunging and riding young horses (based on ability / experience)
– being extremely flexible with time
Students will have the chance to work inside the stable and be part of the team. Students must only have a dream and passion to see what an international stable and lifestyle is like no matter what level. Mucking stables, grooming horses, cleaning tack are all part of the job criteria…. There are chances for watching, learning, training, riding, attending competitions etc…. but these opportunities are all completely dependent on attitude and situation.
This is not a fully paid position but an opportunity for experience. We offer the experience of working with dressage horses in a Dutch barn, being part of the Dutch culture and working in a successful international team .
You will have your own full furnished apartment and utilities (electricity, gas, water, wifi) will be included but NOT damages to property. You will also receive a small monthly salary to cover your living expenses. Students must have comprehensive health and accident insurance for Europe before entering our stable (we can help arrange this BEFORE you depart your residing country) and must also have an effective visa for visiting Europe.
